A VISIT TO SEWELL
Ingrid's Dad took us on a guided tour of her birthplace Sewell. A mining town on the Andes Mountains. It's called to city of stairs as there are no roads, only the road that took us there which in the past was only accessable by train. Ingrid's dad Vince recognized all buildings and so did Ingrid. A lot of the town has been demolished, which was sad for both to see. Marcos, Ingrid's brother and Gladys, her mom were also born here.
The lower section of the camp was reserved for the American owners of the mine and their management teams & families. The camp had a beautiful theatre, bowling alley, two dance halls, and indoor swimming pool and many luxurys which seem completely out of place given the stereotype of the mining camp.
